Trafficking Rohingyas, Bangladeshis: Charge sheet filed against six Indians
India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against six Indians from Assam state in connection with a case of trafficking Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis into Indian territory for sexual exploitation and settling them in this country.
The case pertains to trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis into India for the purpose of exploitation and in order to settle them in India permanently on the basis of fake Indian documents, read the charge sheet.
The NIA filed the charge sheet before a special court in Guwahati on June 4. The case was registered suo-moto by the NIA on December 27 last year, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The six accused, who were apprehended in March this year, were arrested in March this year when the NIA busted a syndicate spanning India and Bangladesh that was involved in illegal trafficking of Rohingya Muslim and Bangladeshi minor girls and women.
The NIA told the court that investigation has revealed that the accused persons were involved in organised human trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi minor girls and women in association with other conspirators based in different parts of the India and Bangladesh.
The accused persons had arranged for transportation, accommodation and procurement of fake documents for the trafficked Rohingya victims.
The six persons have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The charges involve trafficking for sexual exploitation, abduction, abuse of power and criminal conspiracy.
Of the six accused, five are residents of Assam's Cachar district while one is from East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya.
The accused named in the charge sheet are Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury, Bapan Ahmed Choudhury, Sahalam Laskar, Jamaluddin Choudhury (all from Assam's Cachar) and Wanbiang Suting from East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.
