Luna becomes 1st ever woman chairman of state-owned bank
Luna Shamsuddoha today joined Janata Bank Limited as the chairman becoming the first woman chairman of any state-owned bank of the country.
Before joining as chairman she was a member of the board of the Janata Bank since June 2016 and also served as a board member from 2009 to 2012 in Agrani Bank another state-owned reservoir.
Luna said her major responsibility will be to serve the bank as much as possible and improve its performance.
“We all know the bank is running through a crisis moment and my first task will be to bring out the bank from this crisis,” Luna, told The Daily Star, after taking the charge.
Luna is also a software entrepreneur, chairman of Dohatec New Media running the enterprise since 1992.
She is the managing director of Global Voice Telecommunications Ltd as well.
Dohatec was involved in the development of voter enrolment solution in 2007-2008. Her firm developed several e-Governance Project and also developed the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System that ensures transparency of government procurement.
Her company also has other bigger ventures in home and abroad in ICT sector.
She has masters in International Relations from Dhaka University and started working as a lecturer at the Institute of Modern Language at Dhaka University. And later she started business.
With different awards, Luna owned The Daily Star’s ‘Outstanding Woman in Business’ award last year.
