Beef import challenges dominate BIHA’s end-of-year meeting
The Bangladesh International Hotel Association (BIHA) held its annual meeting today at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, focusing on a critical issue—challenges in beef import.
Star-rated hotels struggle to meet international guests' demands for premium-quality beef due to import restrictions and inconsistent supply, threatening high-end dining standards.
Presided over by BIHA President HM Hakim Ali, the meeting also addressed rising utility costs, regulatory hurdles in alcohol procurement, and hotel security. "Resolving the beef supply issue is vital for maintaining culinary excellence," Ali emphasized.
The event brought together representatives from over 30 leading hotels, including The Westin Dhaka and Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden.
BIHA announced the BIHA Champions League 2025 to promote industry camaraderie and discussed collaborating with Tourist Police Bangladesh to enhance safety measures.
The association recognised Shakawath Hossain for achieving the highest number of national and international awards in 2024.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to work collaboratively for sustainable growth and operational excellence. "Together, we can overcome challenges and elevate Bangladesh's hospitality sector to global standards," Ali stated.
