Special panel to find reasons for FMCG price hike

Consumer rights body says

The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) will investigate the authenticity of the claim that the retail prices of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) increased because of rising spending for raw materials, shipping, dollar, transportation and fuel.

The directorate will form a four-member committee with representatives from Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh, DNCRP and FMCG manufacturing companies.

The committee will begin work from next week, AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general of DNCRP, told The Daily Star.

The directorate took the initiative as some consumers have complained that some companies have hiked FMCG prices uncontrollably.

The DNCRP shared the information of forming a special committee at a meeting with the representatives of the FMCG companies at the directorate's office in Dhaka today.

In the meeting, the directorate asked the representatives to explain why and how much they have increased the prices of the FMCGs.

The officials of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, Advanced Chemical Industries, Square Toiletries Ltd and Kallol Group of Companies were present at the meeting.
