Stocks gain after two days’ slump
Stocks gained today after two days’ slump, but turnover dropped to its one and half months’ low.
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose 11.39 points or 0.19percent, finishing the day at 5,735.92.
However, turnover, another important indicator of the market, dropped 31.39percent to Tk 611.76 crore, with 12.93 crore shares and mutual fund units changing hands on the DSE.
Of the traded issues, 124 advanced and 165 declined with 56 securities closing unchanged on the premier bourse.
United Power Generation dominated the turnover chart with 13.87 lakh shares worth Tk 57.09 crore changing hands, followed by Bangladesh Submarine Cables, Grameenphone, Square Pharmaceuticals and Fortune Shoes.
Meghna Condensed Milk was the day’s best performer with 10 percent in gain, while Dulamia Cotton was the worst loser, shedding 8.37percent.
Chittagong stocks also soared with the bourse’s benchmark index, CSCX, increasing 16.83 points or 0.16 percent to finish the day at 10,631.26.
Loser beat gainers as 142 declined and 77 advanced, while 42 finished unchanged on the Chittagong Stock Exchange. The port city bourse traded 66.10 lakh shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 21.85 crore.
