The fisheries and livestock ministry began sales of milk, egg and meat at affordable rates in 20 different places inside Dhaka city today.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim inaugurated the initiative on the premises of the livestock department in the capital.

As per the reduced rates, beef is being sold at Tk 640 a kg, while mutton at Tk 940 a kg, dressed broiler at Tk 340 a kg, milk at Tk 80 a litre and egg at Tk 10 per piece.

The sale of the three products will start at 9 am every day and continue until the 28th day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Addressing the event, the minister said the food items will be sold as part of the efforts to keep prices of meat, milk and egg stable and help people meet their daily requirement of protein and nutrition.

"The prices will change according to the market situation. It may get reduced, but will not increase," he said.

The selling points are: Abdul Gani Road, Khamarbari, Japan Garden City in Mohammadpur, Mirpur's 60-feet Road, Maternal and Child Health Training Institute in Azimpur, Noyabazar in Old Dhaka, Arambagh, Notun Bazar, Kalshi in Mirpur, Khilgaon Railgate, Lucasmore in Nakhalpara, Kitchen Market in Segunbagicha, Bosila in Mohammadpur, Diyabari in Uttara, Jatrabari, Gabtoli, Hazaribagh, Korail Slum in Banani, Kamrangirchar and Rampura.
