Shah Rafayat receives Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards
On November 9th, Shah Rafayat Chowdhury received Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards in Kentucky, United States.The Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, established in 2013, was established in the name of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, globally regarded as the greatest athlete of all time. The award is presented by Muhammad Ali's family and the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville of Kentucky, which is Muhammad Ali's birthplace.
While accepting the award, he delivered a speech urging young people in Bangladesh to stay united against all odds to build a future for Bangladesh free from fascism and religious fundamentalism. He also dedicated the award to the student movement in July which toppled the long-standing Awami League regime.
Shah Rafayat and Mohammad Yasir received the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award as the first-ever Bangladeshi recipients for their commendable work with Footsteps Bangladesh, a leading youth-based NGO working on addressing extreme poverty challenges across Bangladesh.
