Teach For Bangladesh expands to Rangpur: A new chapter for education
Teach For Bangladesh (TFB) has announced its expansion into Rangpur from 2025, marking a significant step in its mission to transform literacy and numeracy outcomes for primary school children across the country.
The announcement was made during the "Empowering Tomorrow: Rangpur Inception" event held on December 7, 2024, with support from Hempel Foundation, symbolising the organisation's renewed commitment to educational equity, said a TFB press release today.
Rangpur, the birthplace of Begum Rokeya, a pioneer for women's rights and education in South Asia, will serve as a focal point for this initiative. The event featured a vibrant panel discussion with students, TFB fellows, head teachers, government officials, and representatives from the organisation, who shared insights into the region's educational challenges and potential solutions.
A head teacher at the event underscored the region's urgent needs, saying, "The absence of qualified teachers and adequate educational facilities is causing us to lose our most talented students, preventing them from realizing their full potential. This is not just an individual setback -- it is a collective loss for the entire nation."
Hasibur Rahman Sohan, director of program at TFB, highlighted the vision for Rangpur, emphasising the role of community collaboration in building a future driven by quality education.
The CEO of TFB shared a touching anecdote about a student to whom the organisation had promised last year that fellow teachers would be placed in their school. With the expansion to Rangpur, that promise is set to be fulfilled -- a testament to the organisation's steadfast dedication to educational equity.
The inauguration event also engaged key stakeholders, inspiring collective action to improve educational outcomes in Rangpur. As Teach For Bangladesh expands its reach, it looks forward to collaborating closely with local communities, schools, and government bodies to achieve sustainable, meaningful change.
