Tech giant Dell Technologies has appointed Sonia Bashir Kabir to its Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) CXO Advisory Board. Twenty-two members across Asia have been chosen to join Dell's APJ CXO Advisory Board.

The appointment was confirmed on February 4, 2021, according to a press release.

The CXO Advisory Board is an engagement platform for select senior leaders representing a range of industries and verticals that collaborate together with executives from Dell Technologies to explore business, cultural and technology issues with the goals of advancing technology, solving business problems, and furthering business value for each of the Board's members. All CXO Advisory Board members will be under NDA.

Sonia is the first woman tech venture capitalist in South Asia and is currently the founder of SBK Tech Ventures (a venture capital company) and also founder of SBK Foundation (a non-profit organisation).

Besides Dell's CXO Advisory Board, Sonia has board roles in both international and local organisations.

Internationally, Sonia currently serves as Vice Chairman in the Board of United Nations Technology Bank, appointed by the UN Secretary General. She is also currently serving as Member of the Governing Board of UNESCO's Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development.

Locally, Sonia currently serves in the boards of Banglalink, BRAC University, IPDC, Shakti Foundation and is the Technology Advisor for the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI).

While Sonia was the Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh, she was one of the recipients of the prestigious Microsoft Founders Award given by Bill Gates in 2016. She received a Rolex watch from Bill Gates. 

Founders award is given for superior leadership, innovation and significant contributions to the business with outstanding impact.

Less than 2% of Microsoft's nearly 100,000 employees received the award in 2016, recognising Microsoft's strongest contributors and top performers.

Sonia was recognised as a global SDG Pioneer by United Nations (UN) Global Compact in 2017. 10 people got this recognition globally . 

Sonia's picture was featured in Times Square, New City for a week. 

She was recognized for integrating 7 Global Goals into her business practices and strategies:

They were (1) no poverty; (2) quality education; (3) gender equality (4) decent work and economic growth (5) industry, innovation and infrastructure (6) reduced inequalities and (7) creating partnerships to meet the Goals.

Sonia is the first woman in Bangladesh to get the ICT Business Person of the Year Award in 2019 by the Daily Star, the highest circulating English newspaper of Bangladesh.
