The much awaited revamp is finally here
Apple leaves it till late 2018 to finally unveil some of their best products for the year. As an excited Tim Cook walked on stage, Apple made it apparent that they were going to pull all the stops. And as they began you could feel the excitement surrounding the products that were speculated to be unveiled. And without keeping the audience on hold, Apple showcased the new Mac Mini, the MacBook Air, and the long-awaited iPad Pro one after the other. And for all intents and purposes, Apple's newest tablet stole the show.
First on stage was the new MacBook Air which now comes with Touch ID and thinner bezels. The new ultra-thin laptop will come with an 8th Generation Intel dual-core CPU, Thunderbolt 3(USB-C), a 13.3-inch Retina display, stereo speakers which are now twenty-five percent larger and a twenty percent larger trackpad. The device will also be available in new colours that were previously found on its big brother, the MacBook. The device will retail for $1,199 for the 8GB RAM/128 GB SSD model.
The new MacBook Air is, by and large, a feature-packed continuation of Apple's more affordable Air line of laptops. It's nice to see the MacBook Air finally getting some love from Apple after years of being sidelined. It's also nice to see the headphone jack retained on this Apple device.
The Mac Mini was up next, and it too features a whole host of upgrades. It comes with 8th Gen 6-core or quad-core processors, with support for up to 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD. Despite the Mac Mini's name and size, the computer comes with a ton of ports. It features two USB-A ports, four Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C ports and an Ethernet port. The new space grey Mac Mini starts from $799 which comes with a quad-core Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB of SSD storage. While it looks the same as its predecessor from four years back, the Mac Mini was a much-needed continuation of a beloved Apple product.
All that was left was the iPad Pro. We've had months to speculate its features and upgrades, and Apple righteously delivered on those speculations. But Apple did so much more leaving everyone stunned and excited for the new device. The near bezel-less display is a first for tablets which also features facial recognition software introduced on the iPhone X. The device also comes with a USB-C port and support for many USB-C peripherals. This opens up the gates for Apple to perhaps even bring USB-C support to its iPhones. Apple has showcased many uses of the new USB-C port, most significant of which is the ability to charge your iPhone with the new iPad. The device will come with the Apple Pencil 2, Apple's new stylus for the device. The Pencil 2 can magnetically attach itself to the device as well as charge itself while being idly attached to the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is also beefed up with Apple's newest A 12X Bionic Chip which is marketed to make the iPad Pro 35 percent faster with "1000 times" faster graphics. The new iPad Pro will retail for $799 for the 11-inch model and $999 for the 12.9-inch version. The device will be available in stores starting from November 7 and shortly after that time period in Bangladesh.
The iPad Pro not only comes with the Pencil 2 but also the optional Smart Keyboard which Apple has said, will be priced at $179 for the 11-inch model and $199 for the 12.9-inch model. Apple will also be selling the Pencil 2 which will cost $129, a big jump from the original Apple Pencil which cost $99 to purchase.
Alongside all the products, Apple is moving into a more eco-friendly future. Apple has stated that both Mac devices are made from 100 percent recycled aluminium and will lead to a 50 percent carbon footprint reduction. The future of these gadgets looks secure too as both these devices will feature Apple's new T2 Chips. The chipset is said to make it more difficult for hackers to access your device's microphone and provide an overall all-around protection against hackers.
This event was a true showing of what Apple can do with the amount of wealth they have at their disposal. The iPad looks innovative, the new MacBook is interesting and the Mac Mini is intriguing enough to spark newfound consumer interest and the continued backing from loyal fans of their devices.
