A Bounty of Books

The Ekushey Boi Mela 2018 began earlier this month. A favourite fixture of every Bangladeshi, the grounds of Suhrawardy Udyan come alive every morning as book lovers from every corner of the country descend upon it. Over 3000 brand new books are available this time around from both exciting new writers and renowned ones. The late great Humayun Ahmed's re-prints are also available as usual. While reading books is considered to be a hobby that is being replaced, the Ekushey Boi Mela exists to say otherwise. With a touch of spring in the air, the fair looks more colourful now than even a couple of days ago, adding another shine to the beloved event. The month-long fair boasts over 460 publishers this year, a notable increase from last year. Apart from stalls packed with books, visitors will also be able to catch a number of cultural performances, enhancing the overall experience.
