Flood Takes Toll on Life
Flood in the country's north, northeast and central regions has caused massive damage to crops, houses, roads and dykes. Many flood victims are still living on embankments or government shelter centres while some have started returning to their damaged homes. According to a government estimate, at least 6.34 lakh families in the country's 16 districts have been hit by the flooding since mid-July. Educational activities of thousands of students in the flood-affected regions are in a shambles as more than a thousand schools remain submerged or were damaged by floodwater in the past few weeks. Many flood-hit people in the northern districts alleged they did not receive any relief materials. Some others complained of receiving relief but not enough for their families.
