The 100-year-old Kaikkar Tek Haat in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj sits in the early morning of Sundays during the rainy season. Rural people's necessities of the season are sold in the Haat. The merchandise include traditional boats, fishing nets, and other things used for fishing including polos, cages, baskets, and timber used in making boats, and even various delicious food items, seeds for planting and lanterns for when the lights go out. The items are brought to the market from far-flung areas of Comilla, Munshiganj, and adjoining areas of Dhaka. The market remains abuzz with hundreds of visitors throughout the day. Similar markets remain abuzz on designated days throughout the country during the rainy season. In these markets a boat costs between Tk 2,000 and Tk 10,000. This year the demand for boats is very high largely due to massive flooding and waterlogging in several areas.
