Cyclone Yaas Whips Up Tidal Surge
Cyclone Yaas caused high winds, unusually high tides, and storm surges in southern part of the country. Many villages were inundated by sea and river water during the high tide, forcing people to take shelter in safer places. Embankments were breached at many places along rivers due to them swelling. Roads have been badly damaged, disrupting communications. Many victims are now waiting for assistance as they lost their homes and businesses. The photos were taken on Wednesday.
