Safety Derailed
Negligence on the parts of the authorities, travellers and the people around the rail lines often contribute to fatalities. The railway police claim that accidents stem from people gossiping on rail lines, or walking down the rail lines whilst talking on the phone, or crossing the rails risking their lives. It is indeed very common to see people darting across the tracks right before an oncoming train, sitting on lines taking pictures, running along the roof of moving trains and even getting on trains when they have gone beyond their capacities. Homeless children are often seen hitchhiking on trains and putting themselves in harm's way. Strict surveillance is necessary to prevent future tragedies from happening especially now when more people are using the trains as a mode of regular transport. As the city remains clogged in traffic and the buses are full of passengers, trains have become the best option for those dwelling around cities.
