2 die of ‘poisonous gas’ inhalation in Savar tannery estate
Two workers died and another fell ill today after inhaling “poisonous gas” at a tannery factory in Hemayetpur of Savar, on the outskirts area of Dhaka.
Deceased Hasan, 24, and Mahbub, 50, were workers of “Prince Leather Industries” in Tannery Industrial Estate.
The workers fell sick while mixing chemicals in a jar around 2:30pm, Raju Hawlader, a co-worker of the deceased, told The Daily Star.
They were rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital. Hasan was pronounced dead by doctors and the other two were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Mahbub died after he was taken to the DMCH while Moyazzem, 26, is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Police Station Mohsinul Kadir said that they are aware of the incident and looking into the matter.
