Acid attack victim cries for justice
A victim of acid attack, who is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), today demanded exemplary punishment of her husband, the alleged culprit.
Farjana Akhter, 19, sustained five per cent burns on her neck and back after her husband allegedly threw acid at her following an altercation last week at their house in Gazipur, reports our staff correspondent quoting DMCH doctors.
“I want justice. I demand exemplary punishment of my husband as he threw acid at me over trifling matter and wanted to drive me out from the house,” Farjana told The Daily Star.
The incident took place on Friday, July 13, in the morning when the couple had a quarrel as Farjana suspected that her husband, Al Amin, was using drugs.
At one stage of the quarrel, Al Amin threw acid at Farjana from behind. Farjana’s mother Parvin Begum, who came to their house the same morning, also sustained burns on her hand as she tried to save her daughter, the victim said.
Earlier, Al Amin, owner of a motorcycle workshop, beat up Farjana on Thursday night when the couple quarrelled over the same issue, she alleged.
The victim was rushed to first taken to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to the DMCH on the same day as her condition deteriorated, her mother said.
Farjana, daughter of Ainal Haque of Bhawal area in Gazipur, was married to Al Amin of Latifpur area under Kaliakoir upazila in the district last year.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kaliakoir Police Station, told The daily Star that the victim’s father later filed a case with the police station accusing Al Amin and his parents in this connection.
All the three accused went into hiding after the incident, the OC added.
