147 held in Hazaribagh, Karwan Bazar

At least 147 people were detained today during anti-narcotics drive through Hazaribagh and Karwan Bazar in Dhaka city, law enforcers claimed.
Karwan Bazar Railway Slum was raided around 3:00pm today and 47 were held from there, according to Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Detective Branch (DB).

Earlier today, over 100 people, including five women, were detained during a drive in Ganaktuli area of Dhaka’s Hazaribagh.

The drive at Sweeper Colony started at 11:00am and continued for three hours, said Abdullahil Kafi, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Ramna Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Around 1,500 litres of locally made alcohol, 300 pieces of Yaba, some cannabis and phensidyl were seized from the area, ADC Abdullahil Kafi said.
The nationwide anti-drug drive was launched by Rab on May 4 upon receiving directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Police have been carrying out the drive since May 18.

According to police headquarters, until yesterday, some 6,200 alleged drug traders were held and sued in around 5,000 cases all over the country.
