The militants killed during Dhaka raid in Kalyanpur yesterday were hit by several bullets each and mostly on their back, autopsy revealed today.

- Each militant hit by 7/8 bullets

- Bullets ascertained as reason of death

- 7 bullets taken out from 4 of the bodies

- Blood sample kept for medical test

Each of the nine militants was hit by seven to eight bullets in the body, said Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor of Dhaka Medical College’s forensic department.

“Most of the bullets showered on them were fired on their backs,” he told the waiting media after completing the autopsy on the bodies at the college’s morgue.

Seven bullets could be taken out from four of the bodies. The remainder, though had several bullet wounds, did not have bullets in them. Doctors ascertained bullets as the reason of death.

Also, according to the professor, doctors have kept samples of blood and hair samples of the militants for determining, in the future, whether they took stimulants or any form of drugs.

Shohel Mahmud along with his colleagues Kabir Shohel and Prabir Biswas performed the autopsy that began from 11:30am. The waiting media was briefed around 1:50pm.

Meanwhile, last reported around noon, a case was yet to be filed in this connection.

Yesterday, a joint force drive in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur, named operation ‘Storm 26,’ neutralised nine militants and arrested one after an overnight standoff that terrorised residents in the area.

Thirteen locally made grenades, around five kilogrammes of gel, 19 detonators, four 7.62mm pistols, seven magazines of 7.62mm pistols, 22 bullets, three commando knives and 12 guerrilla knives and two black flags with Arabic letters were found.

Though the detainee claimed he was a militant of the Islamic State, Bangladesh’s police chief said the terrorists belonged to banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

It was said that these militants had a lot in common with those terrorists who attacked Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone on July 1 and Sholakia Eidgah on Eid day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina lauded the effort of the law enforcers and intelligence agencies and said that swift actions helped save the country from a major disaster.
