GCC ward councillor candidate comes under attack

Criminals hacked a ward councillor candidate in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections in the Tin-shed area of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) this evening.

Victim Rafiqul Islam Dhali, councillor contestant from ward 28 and central vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, said he went to the BARI around 7:30 pm.

Five men of his rival Zobed Ali swooped on him and hacked him with sharp weapons, he claimed.

Later, locals rescued him while the attackers managed to flee.

Dhali was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Gazipur Aminul Islam said no case was filed in this regard.
