BNP’s mayor runner seeks resumption on GCC polls process
Opposition BNP’s mayor runner Hasan Uddin Sarkar today filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s halt on Gazipur City Corporation election.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division may hold hearing on the petition later in the day, Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for Hasan Uddin told The Daily Star.
Citing from the petition, Leon said the High Court stayed the Gazipur City Corporation Election for three months on Sunday following a writ petition filed by Savar upazila Awami League leader ABM Azharul Islam alias Suruj, who is not an aggrieved person about the gazipur city corporation election. Therefore, his writ petition is not acceptable.
Advocate Leon also said that the writ petition was filed with the HC from political intention in order to obstruct the process for holding the Gazipur City Corporation election.
