With bribe, wife gets ‘alone time’ with jailed husband, then gets caught
A woman has managed a chance to ‘reunite’ with her imprisoned husband bribing her way through prison guards. Successful for a brief period of time, she got caught in the act.
The incident took place in Dhaka Medical College Hospital this afternoon. The prison guards, who have allowed the ‘meeting,’ have been handed over to their superiors. One other has been detained.
The convict is Mozammel, alias Moazzem, is a convict of a case filed over the Peelkhana carnage – handed 10 years in prison for the BDR mutiny and the killings.
Dhaka jail authorities sent Mozammel to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he fell ill around 11:30am. His wife got news and rushed to the hospital to meet her husband.
Bribed, prison guards Wahiduzzaman and Jashimuddin allowed the wife to spend ‘alone time’ in a room inside the hospital. About half-an-hour later, police caught the four into the act.
“A hospital staff named Masum has been detained in this connection,” said Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH’s police outpost. “The two prison guards have been handed over to prison authorities.”
Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Jahangir Kabir told The Daily Star that allegations of negligence in duty against the two prison guards will be investigated. “Actions will be taken against them after probe.”
The wife told The Daily Star: “After a very long time, I was speaking to my husband in private. But now, it has become a great chaos. This is not right.”
