‘Defaming Bangabandhu’: 10 Ctg teachers get bail in sedition case
A Chittagong court today granted bail to 10 teachers in a sedition case filed for “defamation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” in Banskhali upazila of the district.
The court of District and Sessions Judge Md Helal Chowdhury granted bail to 10 of the 13 teachers accused in the case after they were produced before the court with bail prayers, said the teachers’ lawyer Ibrahim Hossen Chowdhury Babul.
On July 19 last year, an examination question paper for class nine was published where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was compared with a local Union Parishad Chairman.
A sedition case was lodged with Banshkhali Police Station in this connection on April 12 this year.
“Dukul Barua, who prepared a question paper, Taherul Islam , president of Banshkhali Teachers’ Association president and also head teacher of Kalipur Nachera Khatun Girls High School, and Mohammed Mia, general secretary of the teachers’ association, were sent to jail as the court rejected their bail prayers”, the lawyer said.
The teachers who secured bail are-- Secondary Teachers’ Association of Boalkhali upazila’s president Md Ali, general secretary Amir Hossain, Anwara uapzila’s president Abul Kalam, secretary Badol Das, Patiya upazila’s president Md Yusuf, secretary Shaymol Dey, Satkanaia upazila’s president Ajit Karon, secretary Waiz Uddin and Chandanish upazila’s president Bijon and general secretary AHM Sayed Hossen.
