Dengue situation alarming: Mayor Khokon
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon today said that the ongoing situation of dengue outbreak in the capital is alarming, and stressed that the authorities are doing everything to bring the situation under control.
“The number of dengue patients is increasing every day. But were trying heart and soul to ensure that the situation stays under control,” Mayor Khokon said while visiting dengue patients at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka this morning.
“However, many of the patients have recovered from the disease and returned home,” he said, calling upon the newsmen to publish reports on the recovery of the patients in a bid to bring confidence among the people in this regard.
He also said that it is a positive aspect that awareness is being built over the dengue situation through collective efforts of all quarters.
“With our collective efforts, we will be able to make our city free of dengue menace,” Mayor Khokon said.
He also said that mosquito repellent aerosol sprays will be distributed free of cost in the educational institutions in the capital from tomorrow.
The mayor visited the dengue patients being treated at the hospital. During the visit, he called upon the patients and their near ones not to be worried and follow the guidelines and course of treatment as advised by the physicians.
Tracking device to be issued for DNCC’s mosquito control officials
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam today said all the staffers of the DNCC who are engaged in drives to curb mosquito menace in the city areas would be issued tracking devices from next week.
“All officials and workers of DNCC who have been engaged in mosquito control drives in areas under DNCC Zone-1 to Zone-5 will be brought under GPS tracking from next week,” Mayor Atiqul said.
The decision was taken in a bid to ensure transparency and accountability in DNCC’s effort to eliminate mosquitoes from the areas under the city corporation, the mayor said.
Mayor Atiqul said this while addressing a seminar at American International University Bangladesh campus as the chief guest this morning.
“The names and phone numbers of the workers in the mosquito control drives, their supervisors, and monitoring officers, have been published on the DNCC website,” he said.
The mayor called upon the residents of areas under DNCC Zone-1 to Zone-5 to collect the contact information of the officials engaged in mosquito control in their respective locations and contact them over any issues in this regard in order to bring them under accountability.
He also called upon the students to build awareness over dengue situation and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
At the end of the programme, Mayor Atiqul along with the students of AIUB carried out a clean-up drive on the university campus.
