Dhaka building evacuated over claim of tilting
A multistoried building in Dhaka’s Monipuripara, that houses a ready-made garment factory, has been evacuated over allegations of tilting.
The building, a twin unit of another five-storied building, houses Continental Apparels. With Airport Supermarket in the bottom floors, it has the garment from second floor upwards.
The tilting could be seen.
Workers of the factory approached police with claims that the factory leaned over yesterday, said Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station.
Officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhha (Rajuk), the capital’s development authority, visited the building around noon today and ordered it to be evacuated, he said.
Shafiqul Hanna, authorised officer of Rajuk’s zone 5, said “No cracks were found in the building. The building has been evacuated as a precaution.”
Experts from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology have been called in for further inspection, he added.
