Dhaka University TSC tea stalls reopened
The makeshift tea stalls at Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) reopened this afternoon hours after the authorities shut down those stalls citing “security issues”.
The stalls reopened when DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani told reporters that the authorities shut only mobile tea-stalls on the campus.
Earlier in the day, he said all makeshift stalls were ordered to shut down in campus to ensure hygienic food, security and proper environment for education.
Students found the tea stalls closed at TSC, an everyday gathering commonplace for students and visitors, in the morning, reports our campus correspondent.
Tea vendors said that they were asked by the proctorial body to close their stalls last night.
Tuhin Kanti Das, DU unit president of Chhatra Union, highly criticised the move and told The Daily Star that the decision was “un-democratic and imposed without an alternative”.
Notable, earlier on October 17, Dhaka University imposed a controversial decision to wrap up cultural and social activities at TSC by 8:00pm, which was later loosened in face of mass criticism.
