Doctors confirm gang rape of Garo girl
Doctors at forensic medicine department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital today confirmed that the 21-year-old indigenous girl was gang-raped at Kuril Bus Stand in Dhaka Thursday night.
“We found the recent forceful sexual intercourse signs primarily in the victim’s body after examining her,” Habibuzzaman Chowdhury, chief of the forensic and medicine department, told reporters at noon.
Police of Bhatara Police Station brought the victim to the forensic department of the hospital today where Mamataj Ara performed her examination, Chowdhury said adding that the report will be given in seven days.
“Since, it is very sensitive matter, we will provide the report within shortest possible time,” he said.
The Garo girl was gang-raped inside a running microbus in the capital's Kuril area Thursday night.
The incident happened at a time when the whole country is still reeling from the shock of sexual assault on women during Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
She was forcibly bundled into the microbus by five men from Kuril Bus Stand area, where she was waiting to catch a bus for returning to her Uttara residence around 9:30pm Thursday, the victim's sister told The Daily Star yesterday.
Meanwhile, Manusher Jonno Foundation protested the rape and demanded arrest of the criminals.
