Eskaton double murder: AL lawmaker’s son indicted
A Dhaka court has indicted Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling party Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, in connection with a case filed for gunning down two people in the capital’s New Eskaton area last year.
Judge Shamsunnahar Begum of Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order after discharging a petition filed by Rony.
Rony pleaded not guilty to the charges against him at court.
The court set April 11 for starting the trial.
According to the charge sheet, Rony fired random shots in the air from his jeep for “being frustrated over post-midnight traffic” on New Eskaton Road on April 14, leaving a rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver dead.
The incident did not draw much attention at first, but as the media ran reports on Rony's involvement in the incident, it led to a huge public outcry.
Earlier on August 13, 2015, a Dhaka court accepted the charges against the accused.
