Father, son injured in Mohakhali slum fire
Two of a family suffered burn injuries in a fire that gutted at least 32 shanties in Sat Tala slum at Dhaka’s Mohakhali area early today.
Injured Abu Bakar, 55, suffering 45 percent burns, and his son Kawsar, 22, with 25 percent burns were taking treatments at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The fire sparked from an electrical short-circuit around 5:00am today, said Farid Uddin, operator at Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Seven firefighting units rushed to the spot and put out the blaze around 7:00am, he said. “32 shanties were gutted in the fire and losses amounted to Tk 15 lakh.”
Inspector Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told The Daily Star of the injured attending treatments at the hospital.
