Flight operation resumes at Dhaka airport after 9 hrs
Flight operation at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was resumed this morning, nine hours after it was disrupted due to dense fog resulting delay of at least 30 international and domestic flights.
“Flight operation at the airport was suspended from 12:15 am. The operation however was resumed for domestic flights at 9:30 am and international flights at 10:15 am,” Public Relation Officer of CAAB AKM Rezaul Karim told The Daily Star.
Station Air Traffic Control officer said the fog was too heavy for flight operation after midnight. “The flight operation has been started just after the fog getting thin,” he added.
During the period, six passenger flights and one cargo aircraft were diverted into other airports including Kolkata and Chittagong while departing flights of some airlines including Biman Bangladesh Airlines were delayed for several hours due to the fog.
Poor runway visibility forced the airport authorities to stop both domestic and international flight operations, said SATC officer.
