Friend gets life term for killing Daffodil University student

A Dhaka court today sentenced Asia Pacific University student Mezbaul Alam to life term imprisonment for killing friend Daffodil University student Setu Sarkar in 2013.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Shahed Noor Uddin announced the verdict in the presence of the convict, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

The court has also fined Tk 50,000 on the same charge. In default, the convict will be punished by an additional one-year of imprisonment, the daily said.

In another charge, Mezbaul has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined Tk 25,000. He will have to face six months additional imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

According to the case statement, Setu Sarkar was killed at his residence in Hazaribagh area of Dhaka on August 16, 2013.
