Fulfill your pledges, people tell new mayors (video)
Though not happy with the irregularities and vote rigging during the just held city corporation elections, commoners in Dhaka city want to see their city clean, free of traffic-jam and developed.
Two days into the polls, this correspondent talked to people from different walks of life to know what they thought of the polls and now expect from the new city mayors.
“No matter what they did in the elections, we have to accept the results of the elections,” Ratul, a shop owner, said.
Asked about how the election, vegetable vendor Abdur Rashid quipped sarcastically: “It was held in free and fair manner”.
“Whatever Awami League did in the polls, it is good for the country. Their vote rigging policy was better because I don’t support BNP as the party took petrol bomb in their hand during their agitation,” said Akram, a first year student of a private university.
Not happy with the way the elections were held, Ajibor, a tailor, said: “I have no power to tell anything against the government.”
