Plan to double size of Dhaka city okayed
The authorities today approved a proposal to double the size of Dhaka city by adding eight more unions to both the north and south city corporations.
The expansion proposal was placed at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR), Shafiul Alam, cabinet secretary, told The Daily Star.
Currently, Dhaka city is 129 square kilometers in size. After expansion, the area will be 270 square kilometres.
According to the proposal prepared by the LGRD ministry, Beraid, Badda, Bhatara, Satarkul, Horirampur, Uttarkhan, Dakkhinkhan and Dumni would be included in the DNCC.
Shyampur, Matuail, Demra, Dania, Sarulia, Dakkhingaon, Nasirabad and Manda will be included in the DSCC.
