HC stays Oishee’s fine
The High Court today stayed a lower court verdict that fined Oishee Rahman, who was also sentenced to death for killing her parents.
The fine was Tk 20, 000.
The division bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order after accepting an appeal filed by Oishee challenging the verdict that sentenced her to death.
Now the HC will set a date for hearing the appeal, Oishee’s lawyer Mahbub Hasan Rana told The Daily Star.
Yesterday, Oishee filed the appeal with the High Court seeking acquittal of the charges.
Oishee killed her parents -- Mahfuzur Rahman, inspector of Special Branch of Police, and mother Swapna Rahman -- in cold blood in 2013 and somebody “supported” her in the murders, said a speedy trial tribunal in Dhaka court in the judgment, adding that her execution would be carried out if the HC upholds the verdict.
Oishee's lawyer Masud Rana told The Daily Star that his client in her appeal also challenged the trial proceedings of the case saying that the speedy trial tribunal cannot try a child as Oishee was 17 years old during the killing incident. She also prayed to the HC to grant her bail.
