Hosuewife Shammi murder: HC summons forensic doctor
The High Court today summoned Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic medicine department at Dhaka Medical College, to appear before it on December 3 to hear his statement about the postmortem of Shamima Laila Arjumanna Khan Shammi.
Shammi was allegedly tortured to death by her husband Md Alamgir Hossain Titu, a high official of a buying house, at his rented resident in capital’s Kalyanpur area on June 7 this year.
Investigation officer of the murder case Md Nawsher Ali has also been ordered to appear before the HC on December 3 in connection with the case.
IO Nawsher, also a sub inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station, today appeared before the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim as per its November 7 order and said that he prepared the inquest report on Shammi.
On November 7, the same HC bench had asked Nawsher to appear before it today to explain his conduct over the investigation into the case.
The judges passed the order on a suomoto (voluntary) move following a report published in the Bangla daily Jugantor on November 5 under a headline “Grihobodhu Shammi hotta mamla: Maake baba onek kosto diye merechhe (Hosuewife Shammi murder case: Father Killed mother by giving her much pain).
According to the report, Shamima Laila Arjumanna Khan Shammi was allegedly tortured to death by her husband Md Alamgir Hossain Titu, who was a high official of a buying house, at his rented residence in capital’s Kalyanpur area on June 7 this year.
Police arrested Alamgir and his third wife Israt Jahan Mukta, the report said, adding that the IO of the case is allegedly making dillydally over its inquiry.
Supreme Court lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan placed the news report before the HC bench for necessary order.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the HC torday asked Dr Sohel Mahmud and IO Nawsher to appear before it on December 3 after examining the relevant documents of the case.
