Tk 5cr, 720 tolas of gold at Enamul’s vaults
Rapid Action Battalion today recovered Tk five crore in cash, 720 tolas of gold and five firearms raiding the houses of Awami League leader Enamul Huq Enu, one of his friends and an employee in Old Dhaka.
As part of the ongoing crackdown against casinos, the elite force conducted the drive at a house of Enamul, also a “shareholder” of Wanderers Club, in Banianagar area around 10:00 am.
Tk one crore cash, 720 tolas of gold ornaments, three shotguns and two revolvers recovered from three vaults in two flats of the house, Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior assistant director of Rab’s legal and media wing, told The Daily Star.
One of the flats belongs to Rupam Bhuiyan, a younger brother of Enamul, a vice president of Gandaria upazila unit Awami League.
Enamul is now abroad and his younger brother Rupam, joint general secretary of Gandaria unit AL, is now on the run, sources said.
The Rab members also raided the house of Enamul’s employee Abul Kalam in Dholaikhal area and recovered Tk two crore cash from a vault there, said Shafiullah Bulbul, commanding officer of Rab-3.
The Rab members recovered Tk two crore cash from a vault in the house of one Harun, a close ally of Enamul, on Sharak Gupta Road in Narinda area around 3:30 pm.
Rab sources said Enamul purchased the five vaults from a shop on English Road a few days ago.
The elite force conducted the drive following information of purchasing the vaults.
Enamul and his brother Rupom are partners of the casino in Dhaka Wanderers Club at Motijheel area, Shafiullah Bulbul said.
