Tavella murder trial to proceed
The High Court today cleared the way for the lower court concerned to continue the trial proceedings of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder case.
The court rejected a petition filed by MA Matin, brother of BNP leader MA Kaiyum, an accused of the case challenging the trial proceedings of the murder case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the rejection order as there are specific allegations against Kaiyum’s involvement in the killing, Assistant Attorney General Kazi Mamunur Rashid told The Daily Star.
Cesare Tavella was killed in Gulshan of Dhaka on September 28, 2015.
The murder case was filed with Gulshan Police Station the same day.
Police submitted to the lower court the charge sheet of the case against seven accused including Kaiyum on June 22, 2016.
A Dhaka court on Oct 25 last year framed charges against them.
Matin recently filed the petition with the HC for scrapping the trial proceeding of the case.
