It's a heinous attack: Police
The police headquarters yesterday issued a statement, strongly reviling the heinous terrorist attack on the Holey Artisan Café in the capital's Gulshan area.
In the statement, it said the police force rushed to the spot instantly and tried to bring the situation under control with courage, efficiency and professionalism.
Two courageous police officials--Senior Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of the Police Md Rabiul Karim and Officer-in-Charge of Banani Police Station Md Salauddin Khan -- embraced martyrdom during the gunfight with the gunmen, mentions the statement, adding that 20 other police personnel were seriously injured in the incident.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque too strongly condemned the brutal killing and expressed deep shock and sorrow at the deaths of the two police officials, it adds.
Apart from praying for the departed souls of the police officials, the IGP expressed condolence to their family members and prayed for quick recovery of the injured police personnel.
The concentration, sincerity and sacrifice the two police officials had shown while discharging their duties are truly rare. The Bangladesh police will remember them with gratitude, and their contributions will remain as an example of inspiration for all the other police members, the statement further reads.
Moral of every police member still remains determined and stable even after the atrocious killing of their two colleagues, according to the statement.
The police are committed to making their highest sacrifice to ensure the country's internal security and to protect lives and properties of people in any anarchic situation, it says.
The police headquarters also sought support and cooperation from the people of all walks of life and the media in performing their duties, particularly against militancy and terrorism.
