Judicial probe on 5 Dhaka cops over ‘sexual abuse’
A Dhaka court today ordered a judicial probe against five policemen including officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station a day after a woman filed complaint accusing them of sexual abuse.
Judge Shafiul Azam of the Second Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression today directed Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman to investigate the allegation.
The magistrate was asked to submit a report on the investigation within seven days.
The accused are: OC Aboni Shankar Kar, Sub-Inspector Md Jasim, Assistant SI Md Jamal, constable Debashish of Jatrabari Police Station and SI Abdul Kader of Mugda Police Station.
The woman filed the complaint against the policemen with the Dhaka court yesterday.
The court recorded the statement of the plaintiff and fixed today to pass an order on the issue.
The woman in her complaint said her younger brother Imran Hossain married SI Kader's daughter, but the policeman did not accept the marriage. Later, Kader lodged a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
On November 3, 2015, the accused acting out of grudge also tried to sexually abuse her at Jatrabari Police Station, the complainant claimed.
Contacted, OC Aboni Shankar said he was not involved in any kind of sexual abuse. "If anyone has made a complaint against me, it is false and baseless."
