Kalabagan killings: Nothing to panic, says DMP chief
Terming the twin murder of LGBT magazine editor Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy as “isolated incident”, chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today advised people not to panic.
"We are investigating everything… not brushing aside or ignoring any dimension,” Asaduzzaman Miah told reporters at the DMP headquarters this morning.
Claiming to be successful in the past, he said police would be successful in tackling the situiation in the future as well.
"There is nothing to panic here," he commented.
LGBT magazine editor Xulhaz Mannan and his friend were killed last Monday in a style that bears the hallmark of previous militant attacks and killings on bloggers and secular activists.
Ansar Al Islam, a militant organisation who claims themselves as the al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, has claimed responsibility of the murders.
Regarding this issue, the DMP chief said: “We will investigate the logic behind this claim.”
A vested group is trying to destabilise the country, he alleged. “We will pin them down.”
