155 rescued Bangladeshis return today
Some 155 Bangladeshis, recently rescued from Myanmar's sea territory, will be brought back home through Ghumdum border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district today.
Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar M Ali Hossain told this news agency that Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) will hand over the 155 Bangladeshis to a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) delegation through a flag meeting at the border around 11:00am.
The government has decided to repatriate the 155 Bangladeshi completing the police verification, the DC said.
Earlier, the Myanmar authorities sent to the authorities here a list of 528 people who intended to return to Bangladesh.
Later, the government identified 155 people, out of the 528, as Bangladeshi nationals after police verification.
The Bangladeshis were reportedly going to Malaysia and Thailand over the sea illegally.
