3 die of dengue in Dhaka, Rajshahi
Three persons reportedly died of dengue at two hospitals in Dhaka and Rajshahi today.
The deceased were identified as Akram Hosen, 43, from Demra in Dhaka; Nazma Akter, 48, from Cumilla, and Abdul Malek, 19, from Chapainawabganj.
Akram had been receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for last five days and even after giving nine bags of blood he could not survive, Md Arman, nephew of the victim, told The Daily Star.
He died around 6:00am, Arman said.
Nazma Akter breathed her last around 1:00pm at the ICU of the hospital. She was admitted yesterday, said Shariful Islam, assistant sub-inspector at DMCH’s police outpost.
Abdul Malek, who used to work as a mason in Dhaka, went to enjoy his Eid with the family in Chapainawabganj but he had to take admission to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as he fell ill yesterday evening.
He was suffering from dengue for quite a few days and he got admitted to the hospital at the last stage, said Saiful Ferdaus, deputy director of the RMCH.
He was taken to intensive care unit at the hospital instantly, but he breathed his last around 9:30am, the doctor added.
So far, a total of 346 patients with dengue fever have received treatment at the Rajshahi hospital.
