Chhatra Federation activists attacked by ‘BCL men’ at DU, 7 hurt
Seven activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation (BCF) were injured as Chhatra League men allegedly attacked them on Dhaka University (DU) campus last night.
The victims were attacked by the alleged activists of DU Fazlul Haq unit of BCL, a front organisation of ruling Awami League, around 10:00pm yesterday, reports our DU correspondent.
The victims are: BCF central unit organising secretaries Sadik Reza and Moshiur Rahman Khan; its DU unit publicity affairs secretary Imran Hossain; and its Dhaka Metropolitan Unit deputy secretaries of Rupok Ray, Mohammad Sujan, Rayhan Zaman and a member Rasel Sarker.
All of them are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
While talking to the DU correspondent, Umme Habiba Benojir, president of DU unit of BCF, said that Rasel Sarker, a member of BCF’s metropolitan unit, locked into an altercation with some BCL men in front of DU Physical Education Centre as they asked his identity.
The BCL men then assaulted Rasel after he introduced himself as an activist of BCF, the student front of Ganosamhati Andolon, around 10:00pm, said Benojir.
“One hour later, some 20 to 25 BCL activists of DU Fazlul Haq hall unit rushed to the DU Physical Education Centre where BCF activists were taking preparation for a programme,” Benojir alleged.
Wielding iron rods and sticks, the BCL men started beating the Chhatra Federation activists, leaving six of them injured, Benojir added.
Asked about the involvement of BCL, it’s DU unit general secretary Saddam Hussain said, “We heard that there was an altercation between two BCL activists and outsiders. Later, the outsiders beat up the duo”.
DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani could not be reached over phone despite repeated attempts.
