Country receives 1.387b in remittance in July

The country received $1.387 billion remittance in July.

 According to Bangladesh Bank statistics, the four state-owned commercial banks -- Agrani, Janata, Rupali and Sonali -- received $413.65 million from Bangladeshi expatriates while four state-owned specialised banks got $17.43 million.

The maximum remittance came through the private commercial banks which brought $940.88 million while the nine foreign banks only received $15.08 million.

Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) received the highest remittance of $356.62 million, followed by National Bank Ltd (NBL) with $65.69 million.

 Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $148.75 million, Sonali Bank $123.55 million, Janata Bank $120.18 million and Rupali Bank $21.17 million.

Among other private banks, which are in the leading positions in earning remittance, include Uttara Bank ($57.96 million), Pubali Bank ($52.77 million), Dutch-Bangla Bank ($46.60 million), Bank Asia ($44.64 million), Trust Bank ($23.48 million), Prime Bank ($36.44 million), BRAC Bank ($31.44 million) and AB Bank ($16.97 million).

Although the government allowed establishing these banks with high hope, the NRB banks showed a poor performance in earning the remittance from the expatriates in July as usual.
