Derogatory Fb posts: JnU student sued under Digital Security Act

A student of Jagannath University (JnU) was sued today under the Digital Security Act today for allegedly making derogatory posts and comments about different religions on Facebook.

Md Nur-e-Alam, a student of the university, filed the case against Forhad Hossain Fahad, another student of JnU, with Kotwali Police Station this evening for “publishing derogatory posts” in Facebook on April 4, reports our JnU correspondent quoting police.

Moudud Howlader, inspector (Investigation) of the police station, told The Daily Star, “A case was filed against Forhad under the Digital Security Act for posting derogatory remarks in Facebook on religion.”

Contacted, Forhad said, “I always write against extremism and fundamentalism on Facebook. Some groups cannot tolerate it. For this, I have been sued.”

“Some people have opened various fake Facebook IDs with my name and image and made some derogatory posts and comments regarding religion through those,” he said.

“Now I am getting life threats from different people over the incident,” Forhad added.

However, Nur-e-Alam, the complainant of the case, said, “Forhad made some derogatory posts and comments regarding religion on his own Facebook ID. Sufficient documents were provided to the police in this matter.”
