Drive at Old Dhaka chemical factories next week: Khokon

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon today said that they will conduct a drive at all chemical factories in Old Dhaka from next week.

A mobile court will take legal action against those who will keep around 20 types of banned chemical substances in their factories, the DSCC mayor said.

Khokon came up with the announcement in a view exchange meeting with stakeholders at his city corporation office this noon.

Before renewing licenses for the chemical factories, he said a committee with representation from different business communities and bodies including Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), environment directorate and fire service and civil defence would be formed to look after the matter.

The committee will award trade licenses to those whose factories will be found free from such banned chemical substances, the DSCC mayor said.
