Crisis management core committee today decided to complete the disbursement of Eid festival allowance and salary of the month of May to the garment workers by May 30 and June 2 respectively.

The decision came at a meeting of the core committee with Monnujan Sufian, state minister for laboour and employment, in the chair at the ministry.

In the meeting, both the factory owners and government agreed that the salary of at least 20 days of the month of May to be paid by June 2 and festival bonus by May 30 so that the workers can go to their village homes smoothly.

If any owner wants to pay the salary of the whole month of May, they can do it, but they will have to pay salary of at least 20 days of the month of May by June 2, Sufian said at the meeting.

Leaders from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, trade union leaders, industrial police, government high-ups from different ministries and district attended the 42nd meeting of the core committee to decide about the salary disbursement to the workers ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
