Man gets 30yrs in jail for carrying heroin

A Dhaka court today sentenced a man to 30 years in jail for possessing 80 grammes of heroin when he was held in June 2017.

Judge Shaikh Golam Mahbub of the Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka delivered the sentence in presence of the convict Md Sohel.

The judge further fined him Tk 10,000, in default of which he will have to serve three more months in jail.

According to the prosecution, a team of police went on a drive to Muradpur Rishipara area of the capital’s Kadamtoli on June 28, 2017 and arrested Sohel with 80 grammes of heroin.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against Sohel with Kadamtoli Police Station on the same day. Police pressed charges against him on August 10, 2017.

0n November 16, 2017, the court framed the charges against Sohel. Five witnesses out of eight gave their testimonies before the court on different dates in the case.
