Manjur meets BNP grassroots, new female voters
BNP-blessed mayoral hopeful M Manjur Alam, who will start his field-level campaign tomorrow, met party grassroots leaders and new female voters at his residence yesterday, while two top BNP leaders continued seeking votes for him from the general people.
Manjur promised to the new female voters that he would free the city from pollution. He will start visiting the residents personally with a manifesto and after allotment of symbols tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Chittagong city BNP President Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury visited shops and houses in Pathantuli and Majhirghat, while BNP Vice-Chairman Abduallh Al Noman toured around Khulsi, Jhautala and Wireless areas wooing voters.
Addressing a street rally in TNT area, Noman called Manjur a man of integrity and a man free from greed, and claimed that even many AL supporters will vote for him if the election is held in a free, fair manner.
Speaking at a separate campaign rallies, Khasru said Manju in his tenure did a lot of development work which the city had not experienced in the last 15 years.
Khasru told journalists that a level-playing field for the election was yet to be created, as many BNP leaders and activists were in jail.
"Our leaders and activists are being harassed with false cases or arrests every now and then by branding them as criminals or militants so as to prevent them from poll activities," he said.
Khasru also questioned the Election Commission's role, for "not taking" action against ministers and lawmakers who are "joining" campaigns.
