New Year: DMP bans outdoor celebrations

- Traffic control after 8:00pm
- Bars to close from 6:00pm
- Anti-narcotics drive from today

Instructing dwellers of Dhaka city to stay and celebrate indoors, law enforcers today issued a restriction on outdoor celebrations on New Year eve.

All forms of gathering and celebration outdoors will be prohibited from dusk on December 31, said Asaduzzaman Mia, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Traffic through Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Dhaka University areas will be controlled and no "outsiders" will be allowed in these areas after stipulated time.

Residents of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara have been advised to return home by 8:00pm and these areas can only be accessed through the Kakoli intersection.

Dhaka University will be under tight vigilance and only students and residents of the area will be allowed to fare through High Court-Doyel Chattar-Shaheed Minar-Palashi road from 6:00pm.

Hatirjheel area will also be closed for public after 6:00pm.

Though indoor programmes have been allowed, the use of firecrackers has been prohibited. Police said they will give outmost security to parties inside hotels, motels and restaurants.

Bars will be closed from 6:00pm. Also, police and the narcotics control division will begin a drive from today in a bid to curb the use of narcotics in New Year parties.
